With the ARRIS C4® CMTS, ARRIS delivers DOCSIS® 3.0 functionality in two different architectures to meet all operators’ network models.

Full DOCSIS 3.0-based functionality via the Integrated CMTS (I-CMTS) model:

• The I-CMTS architecture provides independent downstream and upstream scalability and full DOCSIS 3.0 functionality within a single chassis. This architecture delivers the same high-availability and ease-of-operation currently being offered while substantially increasing density and scalability.

Full DOCSIS 3.0-based functionality via the Modular CMTS (M-CMTS) model:

• The M-CMTS architecture uses the DOCSIS MAC processing and Gigabit Ethernet ports of the C4 CMTS and enables downstream growth through external M-CMTS-compliant edge QAMs. The ARRIS D5™ Universal Edge QAM delivers full compliance with the original NGNA vision, including this optional disaggregated M-CMTS architecture.

The advanced architecture of the C4 CMTS provides unique benefits in the deployment of DOCSIS 3.0.

• Hitless module failover and hitless software upgrade
• Customer-specific configuration of hitless spare groups
• Hot-swap capability for all modules

These technical advantages will enable seamless migration and cost-effective deployment of solutions for DOCSIS 3.0.
